Associate Professor Logan Walker is a cancer genetics researcher, and the current Associate Dean Research, at the University of Otago Christchurch. He carried out his post-doctoral training in hereditary cancer genetics at the QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute (Brisbane) from 2007 to 2011. After returning to New Zealand in 2011, he was consecutively awarded two of New Zealand’s prestigious post-doctoral fellowships, the Sir Charles Hercus Health Research Fellowship and the Rutherford Discovery Fellowship. He is a leading member of several international groups tasked with improving protocols for genetic testing around the world. This work included developing RNA diagnostic guidelines for both the clinical and research setting, and providing expert advice about the implementation of these guidelines and the interpretation of genetic test results. In collaboration with multiple international consortium study sites, he has also contributed to and led some of the largest cancer genetic association studies of DNA copy number variants that increase or decrease the risk of cancer.
